We are a crew of 14 Amateur Data Driven Astronomers, worked on the cross matching between Radio and Optical Catalogues using a naive algorithm called KD -Tree, further detected and classified the Galaxies into Elliptical with the help of Machine Learning techniques.
Galaxies? The word deeply fascinates one of how one can know that the star
which you see in the night sky is just a celestial object or a galaxy which is
billions of light years away. Here’s a smart and efficient way to find out.
The report is about cross matching between optical and radio catalogs for
classification of elliptical galaxies using machine learning techniques. Till
now, millions of galaxies has been discovered by various space programs.
Here we have studied that how galaxies are evolved and classified different
types of galaxies by their size, shapes, redshifts, temperature etc. We have
taken catalogues having datasets containing various parameters such as RA,
DEC, different bands like u, g, r, i, z etc. which can be separated and used to
calculate various other parameters by machine learning using python programming.
The shapes of galaxies are classified on the basis of ellipticity
which is calculated using Stoke’s theorem. Hubble made divisions on the
basis of ellipticity of the galaxy and Hubble’s - De Vaucouleurs diagram is
being used.
